Introduction

This is the first encyclopaedical dictionary of Zhuang nationality. Zhuang nationality is the largest minority in China, with a population of 15490000 inhabiting southern China: Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Yunnan Province,Guangdong Province, Guizhou Province and Hunan Province. Zhuang nationality developing from Xiou and Luoyue tribes of Baiyue group has a long history and flourishing civilizations. The study of Zhuang nationality has been developing for more than half a century, but up till now not a dictionary of Zhuang nationality has ever been written or published. The publication of the Encyclopaedical Dictionary of Zhuang Nationality has filled in the gap. 　The Dictionary consists of 6900 entries, including organizational system,geography, population, history, economics, science and technology, education,ideology, religion, customs, language, writing, literature, art, craft, cultural relic,cultural facilities, news and publishing, medicine, sports, well-know scenic spots,and famous historical figures, etc. All together they are 22 classifications covering nearly all kinds of subjects. 　The Dictionary is a perfect combination of ethnohistory with local chronicles. It is both informative and academic, which gives a comprehensive, systematic introduction to the history, culture and present social situation of Zhuang nationality. Itprovides the readers with valuable sources and information to get to know Zhuang nationality and the other relevant nationalities. 　The Nationalities Affairs Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is responsible for organizing the compilation of the Dictionary. More than 500 experts and scholars join in the work and the Dictionary itself is the valuable result of their long-time study in the field of Zhuang studies.
