惯形容非常迅速、快捷，说话的功夫事情已经发生了。《荡寇志》一二七回：“说时迟，那时快，史进早已手提流星锤，换了一匹高头大马，赶到阵前。”

旧时小说中套语。意谓现在说书时已嫌迟慢，当时却是疾速的。指事情的发生比说到时还快。形容动作非常迅速，或事情发生非常突然。《水浒全传》九： 话说当时薛霸双手举起棍来，望林冲脑袋上便劈了下来。～，薛霸的棍恰举起来，只见松树背后雷鸣也似一声，那条铁禅杖飞将来，把这水火棍一隔，丢去九霄云外，跳出一个胖大和尚来。《金瓶梅词话》一： ～，武松见大虫扑来，只一闪，闪在大虫背后。《警世通言》二一： ～！那马惊骇，望前一跳，这里棒势去得重，打折了马的一只前蹄。
