哑巴吃黄连，有苦说不出

黄连： 多年生草本植物，根茎可入药，味苦。比喻有苦难言。也说“哑子吃黄连，有苦说不出”。《泣红亭》第九回：“唯有卢君英、华如锦、罗挺三人如坐针毡，一刻也不得安生。俗话说 ‘哑巴吃黄连，有苦说不出’。”鲁迅《且介亭杂文二集·“京派”和 “海派”》： “他 （指高僧） 自己是知道因为其爱上了泰绮思，所以神魂颠倒了的，但一群愚民，却还是硬要当他是圣僧，到处跟着他祈求、礼拜，拜得他 ‘哑子吃黄连’ ——有苦说不出。”
