形态与组分 球形，内部核衣壳直径110纳米。核酸为DNA，浮力密度1．7－6克／厘米³，GC含量67%。

生物学特性 从狨(Tamarinus nigricollis)的喉部和尸体中获得，也在枭猴(Aotus sp．)、松鼠猴(Saimiri sp．)和蜘猴中获得。宿主为兔和大鼠。对醚敏感，在－20℃中、贮存4个月感染率降为原来的1%。与Spidex monkey herpesvirus有血清学交叉反应。接种过Herpes simplex virus的兔子增强对该病毒的兔疫力。用鸡胚、猴、人、兔的肾Hep－2，HeLa细胞株培养。
