在高等植物中，许多离体培养技术的成功与是否能成功地再生植株有关。事实上，如离体培养分离突变体、原生质体融合和细胞培养等技术的应用在许多农作物受到限制，原因是不能再生植株。只有如烟草和胡萝卜这样少数的农作物在离体培养中得到充分开发，原因是它们容易再生植株。

兹综述离体培养中形态发生的现状，并用表格列示各种植物植株再生的条件，可作为进行难以再生的作物再生研究时的参考。将按科编排进行论述，因为同一科的植物在再生时表现出相似的需要。
