形态与组分 二十面体，直径18～20纳米。常成对，一对粒子的大小为30×20纳米。沉降系数70S。核酸为单链DNA，环形正链，分子量700000～900000。衣壳蛋白分子量28000～34000，也有报道27000～34000。
生物学特性 群的寄主范围很广，但每一种病毒的寄主范围却很狭窄。介体主要为叶蝉，某些病毒由粉虱科(White flies)昆虫传播。病毒在核内集聚形成块状聚合物。
分类 它是植物病毒中的一个群，典型病毒Maize streak virus。其它病毒Abutilon mosaic virus，Bean golden mosaic virus，Bean summer death virus，Beet curly top virus，Cassava latent virus，Chloris striate mosaic virus，Euphorbia mosaic virus，Mungbean yetlow mosaic virus，Paspalum striate mosaic virus，Tobacco leaf curl virus，Tobacco yellow dwarf virus，Tomato golden mosaic virus．Tomato yellow leaf curl virus，Tomato yellow mosaic virus，Wheat dwarf virus。
名称来源 “gemini”来自拉丁语“gemini”，表示“孪生”的意思。因2个粒子同时相伴而生的原故。
